Hockey Director: Mark McDonald
I started ice skating when I was three years old and began playing hockey at age five. In 2012 I moved to Bellingham to join the Blazers in their inaugural season and went on to play four years with the program. After playing one year in the EHL I returned to Bellingham and joined the WWU team where I earned First Team All-Pac 8 honours in back-to-back seasons and led all defenseman in scoring. I’ve been coaching now for about 10 years in the summers and through private lessons but could not be more excited to join the organization that I started with and help re-establish hockey in Bellingham.
Before stating Learn to Play hockey lessons or simply joining a league, players must first learn how to skate. If you are new to skating, consider signing up for our year round Learn to Skate classes, open to all ages and abilities. If you’re already an intermediate-advanced level skater, contact HockeyDirector@BellinghamSportsplex.com for more information about current opportunities.
Bellingham Sportsplex hockey leagues are open to ages 18 and over. Email HockeyDirector@BellinghamSportsplex.com for more information and team placement.
We have a few drop-in options for hockey practice.
STICK & PUCK: All ages, all levels. Hockey players are on the ice for stick-handling practice with a puck. No scrimmaging. Only skates, helmets, and sticks are required for gear.
DROP-IN: Players of any level age 16 years and older are welcome to drop in hockey. Full gear is required. The teams are determined on the spot, for this reason, please try to bring both a light-colored and dark-colored jersey.
PUBLIC SKATE is another option for those skaters looking to practice. All ages and levels are welcome to the ice. Sticks, pucks, and scrimmaging are NOT allowed.
Learn to Play hockey classes are offered weekly through the Spring and Summer. Please contact HockeyDirector@BellinghamSportsplex.com for more information about placement and Winter / Fall learning opportunities.
